Aggregates that are safe and compliant: no NORM materials

Did you know that some building materials may contain substances that emit radioactivity, known as NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials)?

NORM materials are natural materials that contain naturally occurring radionuclides and which can lead to exposure to ionising radiation if not properly controlled.

The content of NORM materials in construction materials is regulated in Spain by Royal Decree 1029/2022, which establishes the obligation to assess and control any gamma radiation they may emit, ensuring that their use does not pose a risk to the health of workers or building users.

As part of our ongoing commitment to quality, safety and transparency, we have carried out a radiological characterisation of our aggregates and can confirm that they do not contain NORM materials.

The tests carried out demonstrate that:

  • They do not contain significant concentrations of natural radionuclides.
  • They fully comply with the gamma radiation limits set out in Royal Decree 1029/2022, which regulates health protection against the risks arising from exposure to ionising radiation in Spain.
  • They pose no radiological risk for use in civil engineering, construction or industrial applications.

We continue to work to rigorous technical standards to provide safe, reliable materials that comply with current regulations, thereby strengthening the confidence of our customers and partners.
